Stone and Dust
Filmed in October 2025 & edited in January 2026 – 3:44
Stone and Dust is a short, poetic documentary about the culture of stone in Barichara, Villanueva, and San Gil. It explores its presence in architecture and everyday life—houses, roads, fountains, walls, floors, and sculptures—and in the funerary sphere, where tombstones narrate trades, accidents, and devotions. This culture is linked to indigenous roots and its consolidation during the colonial period. The film reveals the high human cost of the trade: silicosis has marked generations of stonecutters. It is a tribute to the living carvers, to those who died from the disease, and to the valuable cultural contribution of the region's stone artisans to Colombia.
